Tomorrow my family and I are going up the mountains with other Muslims friends and families of ours. Can't wait to have some fun in the snow :D. We're going to Donner Lake in Truckee, CA. Last week, my friend invited my girl and I to her house for photoshoot. My friend is a pro photographer....I love her work. So, I brought my dslr with me too. It's kinda hard to capture this little girl's mood...hehe. Whenever my friend is not around...she'll pose what I ask her to do....when she's around...sometimes only she'll pose for her. By the time we wanted to go home only she started posing...yeah after 2 hrs we were there....hahaha. So, here are some pics that I took. Still learning the techniques, though ;).

Feb 7, 2010 was my son's birthday. He turned 7 this year...time flies so fast. I can't believe he's already 7....felt like I just delivered him last nite. Dear Abang (that's what we call him), mommy, daddy and adik loves you very very much. Happy 7th Birthday, my darling! :)

Earthquake

Last week on Jan 7 & 8, I felt an earthquake near my home. It happened at Calaveras fault line in Milpitas, CA...it's about 20 miles away from my home. The magnitude 4.1 quake (1st day) & 3.8 quake (2nd day). Although it wasn't strong but I can still feel the movement inside my house. Alhamdulillah there were no damage inside or near my place.

On Tuesday, Jan 12....a major earthquake struck southern Haiti, knocking down buildings and power lines and inflicting what its ambassador to the United States called a catastrophe for the Western Hemisphere's poorest nation. The magnitude 7.0 quake -- the most powerful to hit Haiti in a century -- struck shortly before 5 p.m. and was centered about 10 miles (15 kilometers) southwest of Port-au-Prince, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

Dress-up Time

My girl loves going to school....alhamdulillah :). She loves playing play-doh, painting, do crafts, playing outdoor and her favorite is playing dress-up. This is what she will do when she's there.

Oakland Zoo

Last weekend we took the kids to the Oakland Zoo. It was our 1st time to that zoo...usually we go to San Jose or San Francisco Zoo. It's a very nice zoo coz not too big and too small. The kids had a great time there....we love the petting farm. They also have some rides for the kids next to the zoo entrance. My boy and hubby went on the roller coaster while my lil girl and I went on the carousel. Had a lovely weekend with the family :)

It has been 3 years we didn't go up the mountains to play with snow. So, last Dec '09 we went to Camp Sierra in Fresno for our 1st snow season. We had a blast time there with other friends that joined us for the weekend. The 1st day, we didn't do any sledding coz we lost 1 of the snow chain on the tire...didn't know it came off till my hubby stopped the van to examined it. Then by the time we got a new chain....the road already slippery due to the icy road and we couldn't go to the sno-park area. It was snowing all day till the next morning. Luckily the 2nd day the weather was beautiful and we had a great time sledding at the campsite and then before we went back home we stopped at the sno-park to play again. Can't wait to go again next month....

This is my 1st sewing project. I made a lunch and medium bag. Fabrics by Amy Butler. They are very pretty. I love Amy Butler, Alexander Henry and Micheal Miller fabrics. I love making bags...will do other type of bags in future. My dream now is to put my handmade bags on Etsy one day....InsyaAllah.

My 2nd project is coming soon. Will post once it's done :).

Camp Mendocino

Last Friday, my family and I went camping with other Muslims from the center that we always go to for prayers. This was our 7th Annual Camping trip. This year we went to Camp Mendocino. It's north of San Francisco and it's about 3 1/2 hours drive from my house. It was such a lovely camp ground. Besides the camp ground, it has a railroad track. The trains goes from Willits - Northspur - Fort Bragg. There's also a river where you can swim and kayaking. They had a photo contest and I won 3rd place :). We really enjoyed the camp. Can't wait to go again in September.

Field Trip

Yesterday, my son's class and other kindergartners class went to Hidden Villa Farm for their field trip. I went with them too coz I was their chaperone. At that farm, they have veges, fruits and herbs garden. They also have animals such as chickens, cows, goats, sheep and pinky. It was a great educational trip and they had lots of fun playing, learning, tasting veges and petting those animals.

2's Class

Yesterday was Ruqayya's last day of 2's class for year 2008/2009. She really had fun and every week she look forward to attend the class. I still remember the 1st time she attended the class. She was very shy and didn't want to talk to her teacher and play with other kids. Now, she loves to play, talk and not shy anymore. Thank you Ms. Mina for making the class so interesting and fun. Ruqayya and I will definitely miss her and the class.

Spring Program

Yesterday, at my son's school they had a Spring Program. The school is not big...so, they can't do all the shows on the same day. My son's class had to sing 10 songs and also they had to memorize some lines given to them by their teachers. Very impressed and proud of them coz they can sing all 10 songs and memorized their lines by heart. Thanks to their teachers for making it great! Well done Ms. Reuwsaat and Mrs. Moulden!!

Ok, the other day I was telling that I might get the Brother CS-6000i. So, it arrived to me last week. The machine is very nice and can do embroideries too. So far...I love it. Yesterday was my girl 1st dentist visit for her teeth check up. At first, she was kinda scared to sit by herself...then after the nurse scanned her teeth....she was fine sitting alone. I was so proud of her coz she didn't cry the whole time we were there. Alhamdulillah to hear that her teeth are free from cavities :).

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom

Last week my kids had a spring break for a week. So, we decided to take them to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom this time round. Never been there before...so, kinda excited for all of us. We had so much fun. They have Thomas Town, Loony Tunes Seaport, Tava's Jungeland, roller coaster rides, Elephants, Tiger, Sharks, Penguins, Camels, Dolphins, Whale and Sea Lions show.

Last Wednesday (3/25/09), my son's school had a Science Fair. Their class project was 'Sink or Float Experiment'. I was so proud of him and his friends. The purpose was to find which objects will sink and which objects will float. So, they chose 7 objects such as ping pong ball, golf ball, penny, plastic spoon, pencil, spool and paper clip. Then they had to fill the clear plastic tub with water. After that, they dropped 1 object at a time into the tub and they observed & recorded which object will sink or float. So, the conclusion was all things are made of matter. The objects with more air will float and the objects with more matter and less air will sink.

What is Earth Hour

Earth Hour is an annual international event created by the WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature/World Wildlife Fund), held on the last Saturday of March, that asks households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change. It was pioneered by WWF Australia and the Sydney Morning Herald in 2007,^[1] and achieved worldwide participation in 2008.

Earth Hour will next take place on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 8:30 - 9:30 pm, local time.

Why Should I Vote Earth?

This year, Earth Hour has been transformed into the world’s first global election, between Earth and global warming. For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote – Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming. It was very nice sunny day today. So, we decided to go out and spent the beautiful weather at the SF Zoo with the kids. A lot of people at the zoo coz of the weather. It had been raining for the past 5 days. Only today the sun decided to come out. Thank you Mr. Sun :). We love the petting zoo coz we can feed the goats and sheeps. They are very friendly and always hungry...hehe.

Last Friday, Ruqayya started her spring class after a week off 2 weeks ago. She was so excited to go back to school to meet with her teacher and friends. Most of her old friends are still there and also there are new friends too. They begin with a circle time. During circle time, everybody sings a welcome song and say each others name. After that...all the kids get to do art, play with play-doh, toys, play at the science table and play outside. Every week the teacher change the stuffs at the science table and art project. For the mothers...we have were divided in 2 groups. Group A & B. Every week, we have a group meeting with the teacher.

Yesterday, we went to a birthday party. It was a double celebration. Celebrated 2 kids birthday...a boy and girl. It was such a lovely day although it's cloudy. The weather forecast showed it would rain but alhamdulillah it didn't. The food were so yummy. They had bbq chicken, rice, chicken curry, chinese chicken salad and cakes. We really had a great day at the park especially the kids.

WHY BREAST CANCER USUALLY FOUND NEAR THE ARMPIT????

Hi all....here's a note that I received from a friend of mine. Breast cancer is a #1 life threatening and women's worst nightmare. Hope you guys can take a few moment to read it and PLEASE pass this along to anyone you care about.

I was informed by the Moderator of Women's workcom that one of her rep. had been diagnosed with breast cancer and she is concerned that we should inform our friends about this.

Ladies - some awareness!!! Gentleman - pass on to the ladies in your life, to all the women you know!

Some time ago, I attended a Breast Cancer Awareness seminar put on by Terry & A period.

I asked why the most common area for Breast Cancer was near the armpit. My question could not be answered at that time. This e-mail was just sent to me, and I find it interesting that my question has been answered.

I challenge you all to rethink your every day use of a product that could ultimately lead to a terminal illness. As of today, I will change my use. A friend forwarded this to me.

I showed it to a friend going through chemotherapy and she said she learned this fact in a support group recently. I just got information from a health seminar that I would like to share.

The leading cause of breast cancer is the use of anti-perspirant.

What?

A concentration of toxins and leads to cell mutations,a.k.a CANCER . Yes, ANTI-PERSPIRANT. Most of the products out there are an anti-perspirant/deodorant combination, so go home and check. Deodorant is fine, anti-perspirant is not..

Here's why:-

The human body has a few areas that it uses to purge toxins; behind the knees, behind the ears, groin area, and armpits. The toxins are purged in the form of perspiration. Anti-perspirant, as the name clearly indicates, prevents you from perspiring, thereby inhibiting the body from purging toxins from below the armpits.

These toxins do not just magically disappear. Instead, the body deposits them in the lymph nodes below the arms since it cannot sweat them out. Nearly all breast cancer tumours occur in the upper outside quadrant of the breast area. This is precisely where the lymph nodes are located.

Additionally, men are less likely (but not completely exempt) to develop breast cancer prompted by anti- perspirant usage because most of the anti-perspirant product is caught in their hair and is not directly applied to the skin.

Women who apply anti-perspirant right after shaving increase the risk further because shaving causes almost imperceptible nicks in the skin which give the chemicals entrance into the body from the armpit area.

Breast cancer is becoming frighteningly common. This awareness may save lives.

Cloth Diapering Journey

For CDs...I kinda started late using it on my daughter. At first, I'm only a part-timer...I use gdiapers and also dispos. The gdiapers are very nice but it can't last that long. My girl is a med/heavy wetter....gdiapers can only last for 1 to 1 1/2 hrs...then, I have to change her. I only use it at home coz I don't want a hassle when I go out with her and have to keep changing her every hour or so.

After reading, researched, asked the 'sifus' on the MBW forum and talked to my DH...I started using the modern CDs. Now, I'm no longer a part-timer but a full-timer. It has been 3 1/2 months without dispos diapers...yay!! :). I feel so happy and no more guilt about throwing the dispos and pollute the environment. On top of that...I saves money too.

My 1st DIY wrap. Wrapping my girl at 4weeks old.

My babywearing journey begins with my 2nd child. I didn't know anything about BW with my 1st. So, I didn't wear him. I wished I knew it earlier coz it gives lots of benefits such as....bonding, don't have to struggle with a bulky stroller when you're in a tight places, handsfree, can do chores when wear your baby...etc. Like people said...better late than never :). Thanks to my girlfriend who introduced it to me about BW. I never looked back after that and it was an addiction too :p. Now, I still wearing my girl although I don't wear her as often as I used to. She's 2 1/2 yrs now...so, she likes to walk more than to be carry....hehe. Sometimes she do ask me to wear her and I won't say NO.... :). My hubby does carry her but not often. He loves BW her. Now, my addiction for BW is lesser coz my girl has grown up....I think it'll come back once I have a new baby... :p. At least now, I get to save some money and spend towards myself...hehe. My stashes also become lesser now coz I sold which ever carrier that I don't use anymore and keep which ever I use it in regular basis.

I recommend thebabywearer.com (US base forum) and malaysianbabywearers.lefora.com (Malaysia base forum) if anybody wants to start BW. These 2 sites give lots of info on BW and so other things that related to attachment parenting.

Ruqayya 2's Birthday

We started to send Ruqayya to 'two yr old' class last year in September. The first day of school, she was very shy and very clingy to me. She didn't want to talk to anybody include her teacher, Mina. She goes once a week on Friday morning from 9am till 12pm. Of course I have to stay with her till the class ends. They have about 15 kids in her class. She loves to play 'tea party', play house, art and all the toys there. She had a great time on the first day of school. So, we continued sending her there. She still goes to school every Friday. Now, she has many friends and love to play with them. She loves painting and play dress up. Her fav thing is the pink hat. Last week she had a week break before the spring class start.

Now, she is not so clingy to me anymore and more independent. She talks a lot and loves to sing. It's very nice to see her play with her friends. So, this Friday will be her 1st day of spring class after her 1 week off last week. She's looking forward to attend it.

After 3 1/2 yrs of my son was born, we were blessed to a baby girl on Sept 20, 2006. We named her Ruqayya Nurzahra. She was born 4 days before my due. I had an easy labor compared to my eldest....alhamdulillah. We were so happy to see her. She was such a beautiful baby. This time round, I had my parents with me during my confinement. It was very nice to have my parents around to help.

Our lives changed when our son was born 6 yrs ago. We never plan when we want to be parents. But we got him after 1 1/2 yrs of marriage. I was so excited when I got to know that I was pregnant. The first trimester was not easy for me coz I had the morning and evening sickness. The thing that I really can't stand was fried food. It went away slowly. I delivered him after a week of my due. We named him Ali Ridha. He was born on Feb 7, 2003. It was a blessed for us to have him and we were very happy. Ali, mommy and daddy loves you very much!
